5 reasons to watch Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Here are 5 reasons why you should watch Fantastic Beasts:

J.K. Rowling

If you need a formal introduction to this beloved British novelist, you should be sentenced to life in Azkaban Prison. Because seriously, even if you’re not a Potterhead, you must have heard about J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series – the best-selling book series in history.

With Fantastic Beasts, she’ll be making her screenwriting debut. Upon returning to the Harry Potter universe for the first time since 2007, she commented: “I always said that I would only revisit the wizarding world if I had an idea that I was really excited about and this is it.”

So rest assured fellas, the story will be on point.

It’s a return to a familiar-ish wizarding world

Five gruelling years – that’s how long it’s been since Deathly Hallows Part 2. Although there’s been things like The Cursed Child and Pottermore to help tide us over, there’s nothing that can compare to watching the fantasy world come alive again on the big screens.

Even though the film take places in the same universe, it’s set in a totally different era (70 years before baby Harry), so you’re going to have a magical time with new lore, spells and beasts. If you’re attentive enough, you might even pick up subtle nods to Harry Potter and learn something new or two about the history of Hogwarts.

Eddie Redmayne

Bar the atrocity that was Jupiter Ascending, Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne has already exhibited his amazing acting abilities with a number of critically-acclaimed films over the years, including Les Miserables, The Danish Girl and The Theory of Everything.

He’ll be playing lead protagonist Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who travels from England to New York to go beast hunting. Yes, he’s no Daniel Radcliffe (let’s be honest, we’re so attached to this guy), but with Redmayne driving the franchise forward, you’ll be like “Daniel who?” come the end of the movie.

A surprise cameo

If you’ve been following our daily news round-up, you’ll know that a famous Hollywood star will be making a very brief appearance in the movie, but we aren’t really sure to what extent.

This A-lister does not play a prominent role in Fantastic Beasts, but he (hint) will be a significant character as we move forward in the series, which will reportedly consists of four additional sequels.

Although you can simply head on to the ol’ Google machine to find out who it is, it sucks out all the fun.

Because Hufflepuff

Let’s face it – Hufflepuffs have been given a lot of stick. I mean, c’mon, even groundskeeper Hagrid said that Hufflepuffs are a lot of “o’duffers”, which is essentially slang to describe an inefficient or stupid person.

Although there have been some memorable Hufflepuffs in the Harry Potter film series, including Cedric Diggory (played by Robert Pattinson) and Nymphadora “Tonks” Lupin, there’s definitely a focus on Gryffindor and Slytherin.

But finally, it’s time for the much-maligned house to take centre stage. Newt Scamander Is a Hufflepuff, so we’ll get a chance to see the badgers in action.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in cinemas on 17 November 2016.
