Bukit Timah Nature Reserve reopens! Here’s what’s new

Since it was first established in 1883, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve has been one of Singaporeans’ favourite spots to get acquainted with the natural beauties typical of a humid equatorial climate.

The reserve has one of the richest and most diverse ecological systems and visitors can get up-close with an astonishing variety of fauna and flora.

However, over the years, the reserve experienced a bout of degeneration due to heavy use. Many parts of the trail network had become badly eroded and visitors had to walk along the sides of the trail to avoid muddy sections.

Therefore, a decision was made to close the reserve for restoration works and sensitive enhancements.

After being closed for two years, we are happy to announce that Bukit Timah Nature Reserve has finally reopened to the public.

The two-year closure has allowed NParks to repair and enhance slopes and trails for public safety, restore the forest habitat and conduct a biodiversity survey to help provide better understanding of the conservation status and distribution of plants and animals.

Nature-loving adventurers can now hike on designated non-slip trails and boardwalks that come built with rope handrails to minimise footprint on the forest ground.

Additionally, intermediate steps were also added to more challenging routes to make hiking more accessible.

Along with the new enhancements, you can also head to the upgraded Visitor Centre to check out the permanent exhibition gallery designed to engage your senses. It comes with interactive displays and various tactile components, including seeds collected from plants locally found only in Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.

The upgraded amenities around the Visitor Centre also include a wash bay, drinking fountain and benches for rest.

So, if you’re looking to shed a couple of kilos under the warm embrace of Mother Nature, look no further than an adventurous day at the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve!
