5 types of Singaporean punters

1. The Kiasu Punter

Rain or shine, the week is determined by Toto and 4D days for these people. They never miss a single lottery day. Whether on crowded days like the Chinese New Year draw or the typical lottery day, they are willing to queue for hours just to get a chance at winning the jackpot.

The kiasu punter believes perseverance is the key to winning; you have a chance as long as you buy something. Typically characterised by middle-aged men and women who have been regular lottery buyers in the hope of winning the big prize.

2. The Mathematician

This is the guy who calculates probability and observes statistics before he makes his move. From checking the list of various winning outlets, to evaluating recent winning numbers, every ticket he buys is not based on pure chance but with an estimate.

He believes in using math and logic to increase the likelihood of winning. Then again, you can’t always depend on math to strike the jackpot. Do you know that even unlikely numbers like 0000 have come up first prize in 4D multiple times before?

3. The Very Religious

She prays everywhere to ask for luck, from Fortune of God temples to shrines, or even asking for blessings from relatives who have passed away. Some accessorise with plenty of religious items and lucky charms to attract wealth.

If they win, their faith in these items will be stronger than ever and the collection of lucky items will grow. Some also make a donation after winning the lottery to spread the positivity and accumulate merits.

4. The Magician

They can derive numbers from any object and any situation. From the car plate of a minor car accident to door unit numbers of a new house, they are able to get inspiration from anything.

The skillful ones are even able to figure out numbers from the shape of an object, or number of leaves on a plant. Some even dream of lucky numbers too. Occasionally, it does help with winning!

5. The Social 4D

“Eh let’s buy together la, every one contribute one number.” Sounds all too familiar?

The social gambler is the one to initiate group buys for lottery, especially high bets like system 12 Toto bets. They like to share the cost of buying a ticket and make a social conversation out of buying and checking the results together. Often, you won’t even remember sharing the ticket with that friend but you might be pleasantly surprised if you manage to win. Of course, this also means splitting the winnings among a big group as well.
