Shopping in Singapore

Eating and shopping are often in stiff competition to becoming Singapore’s number one leisure activity. The team at Nestia has created a short introduction guide to shopping in Singapore – before you read this, just make sure your rented room is big enough for all the new stuff you are taking home!

Shopping in Singapore offers a wide range of different possibilities, from super expensive high-end shopping centres to cheap flea markets. The first place any Singaporean will think of when it comes to shopping has to be Orchard Road. This street has one shopping mall after another, some with high end condos and apartments on top of the retail outlets. Here you will find every luxury brand you can think of, and easily spend your savings in one day. Along with the hype, comes the massive crowds as well. To avoid the masses of people, we recommend planning your trip here during one of the weekdays instead.

If you are looking for a more affordable place to go, and also want to experience something a bit different from the international standard looking malls, head over to Mustafa Centre in Little India, or walk the streets of Chinatown. Mustafa Centre is open 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, which gives you plenty of time to browse through the almost infinite amount of goods, such as toilet brushes, CDs, gold, or basically anything you can think of. Meanwhile, China Town would be the place to get your souvenirs, check out various old buildings and temples at the same time. There are also various food stalls and restaurants littered all over Chinatown.

Apart from the central areas of Singapore, many neighbourhood malls are popping up all over Singapore! These malls can rival up to those in Orchard Road and house international brands as well. Several popular ones are; IMM, Nex, Tampines 1, and Jurong Point.

Another treasure to be found in Singapore is Haji Lane where you can find vintage treasures – this is Singapore's home for hipsters. The small shops offer everything from old cloths, to fun clutches and cameras. It is definitely a street to check out! Plan ahead and you will have a great experience shopping in Singapore!
