Celebrate a Google Halloween with this ghastly little game

Google gets into the Halloween spirit this year by replacing its logo with a brand new Halloween doodle, which also happens to be a cute little interactive game filled with ghosts, magic and … cats?

This mini-game follows freshman feline Momo on her mission to rescue her school of magic. Fellow Googlers must help her cast out mischievous spirits by swiping in the shape of the symbols above the ghosts’ heads.

By swiping your cursor vertically, horizontally or other patterns, you control Momo’s magic as she vanquishes various apparitions trying to take over the hallowed halls of her school.

You score points by eliminating the advancing apparitions as they try to attack Momo in five different levels of the school, which includes the library, the building’s rooftop and everything else in between.

But before you jump in thinking that it’s going to be as easy as pumpkin pie, this Halloween romp is not all fun and games.

Ghosts move very fast so it’s difficult to keep track of them. To make things a little more challenging, the game gets harder the further you progress. Ghosts with multiple symbols also appear more often to keep you on your toes… I mean fingers.

Luckily for you, the game does make things slightly easier by giving players five lives to start with, which you can also easily replenish by drawing a heart symbol. Additionally, combos are allowed, so if your first overhead symbol of multiple ghosts is a vertical line, drawing one will destroy them all.

The inspiration for this year’s cat spell-casting game came from a real-life black cat named Momo that belongs to Doodler Juliana Chen.

The original concept for the game involved a magic cat making a soup that was so good that it raised the dead. Connecting the soup to Halloween proved to abstract, so the team shifted to the idea of a wizard school.

So, get your game face on and keep your hands…er, handy? if you’re ready to begin your quest, just head on over to the Google page and click the “Play” button on the animated doodle.

The game can be played on both computers and smartphones, but for optimum experience, use your device instead as it’ll be much easier to draw symbols.

That’s all for meow.
